Cool pics Hugg!
I also think it's cool that you are able to fix that older machine using modern parts. That's something all too many people think "why bother?" just because they think it's easier to get a new...whatever device is broken. SOmetimes it IS better to just get a new one but not always. And, as you said, the machine you are fixing is a "workhorse" so it will likely outlast a new machine. I hope everyone remembered that they had to change the clocks before going to bed. You want to set them back an hour. As the comic strip character Ed Crankshaft once said "spring up, fall down!" Halloween was a bit disappointing. There were fewer kids than there have been in previous years. When my parents got home from my Dad picking my Mom up from work they said they saw a lot of kids over on Toepfer (we live between Toepfer and 8 mile). Last year wasn't a great year as far as having tons of beggars....I mean "trick or treaters", but it was much better than this year was. I have always liked Halloween. It is one of my favorite times of year. It just makes me sick to see it fall by the wayside the way it seems to be doing. Well, that's about all I have to say for now. Catch you all later! |

Cool Pics Huggy, If I can remember how to do it I have a few from Bennys gig at the Fiddle Bikini last night that I will post on here. The girls that work
there made it a very interesting night with some semblance of Lezbeinism, which always seems to stir the crowd. Hey Im not complaining and I doubbt any one at
the bar last was either. Now ready for this weather yet as my tree in front of the house still has at least half of them still on it. I always seem to have to
clean them up when it is snowing.
Thats all for now. |

old days... | ||
James wrote: Halloween is not the same as when I was a kid. One of my friends especially dislikes Almond Joy and Mounds bars (me too!) He said if anyone comes around that is old enough to drive, they get a Mounds bar, and if any kids walk across his lawn they get an Almond Joy. I like his attitude...

RE: Mounds and Almond Joy

What's wrong with Mounds and Almond Joy?
Niether is my favorite but I do like them (I prefer the Almond Joy more). I do agree that if you are old enough to drive then you shouldn't be out trick-or-treating. On the other hand if you are going to be out then have the courtesy to observe the tradition and wear a costume! It bugs the be-jeezus out of me when you see all these kids that have no costume at all or they have a little paint smeared on their face but they aren't made to look like anything its just smeared on. I have seen that with hids that aren't too old as well. The deal is you get candy in exchange for dressing up in some sort of costume for the entertainment of the people passing out candy! Why is that so hard to grasp? A year or two back I mentioned to a younger kid that he wasn;t wearing a costume. He said "we can't afford costumes" and I told him that you don;t have to BUY one! You can MAKE one from stuff around the house! The last year I went out was 1984. I was 13 (which I feel is a decent cut off point) and I was a Ghostbuster (the movie was at its most popular then even though it had in fact come out the year before). I wore a pair of my dad's old cover-alls (which happened to be the right color) and made a "proton-pack" with a box, some rope and a flashlight. It also bugs me that so few people hand out candy when they know there are plenty of kids in their area that are not too old. The flip-side of that is the parents that take their kids to "better" neighborhoods to beg...I mean trick-or-treat. These same people will complain about the car loads of kids that come from Detroit yet they are doing the same thing! The difference is that the kids from Detroit come here because there are many neighborhoods there where it isn't safe. Plus Detroit has that curfiew which that actually enforce. OK, stepping down from the soap-box for now. Catch you all later! |

The credit goes to Huggy
|
Wasn't me that started this month off Benny. But, hey it's a trade off from the time I did start it and you gave the
credit to Huggy (LMAO).
But, I want to make sure Hugg get's the credit he is due. So, congrats should go to him for starting this month off. I agree that we need more women posting. I have talked to a few that I know online and tried to get them to post. The issue is that they are all from other states or even from other countries and I guess they don;t know what to say. That's understandable I guess. I mean, we all have the Michigan connection and the Doctor Doo Wop thing in common. I guess that would be intimidating to someone that has no clue what we are talking about. I think it's funny how that red "cowboy" guitar has become Benny's favorite. From what he told me when he first got it I thought he intended it to be more for decoration around the house. The really funny part is that the Ibanez Talman he thought he'd really like is the one that became a wall hanging instead! That's about all from me for now. Catch you all later! |

RE: the Talman | ||
|
Like I've told you before, many people like to switch out the factory installed EQ for a better one. That might solve the
issue of no low end.
Would it give you the specific "oomph" you are looking for? The only way to know for sure is to try it....or find somebody who has done it and try theirs. I have to mow up the leaves today before I go to physical therapy. I guess it's better than doing it after physical therapy. You know, let them work out the kinks I get from the yard work. LOL! Catch you all later! |
|||
James |
RE: Mowing leaves | ||
|
Well, I mowed up the leaves in our yard before my physical therapy. Then I went to PT and did the exercises that make me sore
and had a massage after (though not by the physical therapist that does it best out of the ones who have given me a message).
Then I came home and mowed up the leaves in the neighbor's yard. So, all the good the massage did went out the window! LOL After the yard work was done I met with a guy that had answered an ad I placed on Craig's List to try and find people to jam with. I guess he hasn't been playing guitar very long. He is a bass player that switched to guitar not long ago from what I gather. He's not bad at all but he thinks I'm "advanced". Me? "Advanced"? Like I told him, I may have started playing guitar before he was born (he's 23 I think) but I have seen 10 and 12-year-olds at Guitar Center that can blow me out of the water. Well, I guess I should be off to bed. Have a good one all! |

My weekly e-mail to Benny/radio recap
|
Howdy doody all,
It's that that time again. Yes, my weekly e-mail to Benny. (hold your appluase) I WISH I WERE THERE TONIGHT!
Hey Benny!
Damn, you are gonna have Paul Miles there tonight? I wish I were there tonight! I'd like to meet him. I like that slide
work he does. I was doing some slide myself last night.
I'm sitting here trying to figure out how the Doc went from you mentioning Sam & Dave to talking about that show
coming up with all the groups at...the Ford theatre is it? I mean it was a total non-sequitur LOL,
You were just saying that if anyone has seen Sam & Dave then they probably have some great memories, That depends. I saw
Sam Moore on a show on The Nashville Network back in the late 80's or there about and he was saying that Dave Prater had a guy impersonating him as part
of his act (I guess when they split it was not on good terms). He said that the imposter Sam even wore the same kind of glasses that he did.
A few minutes ago you said I should look up if Arthur Connelly is still around. I don't even need to look that up. Well I
just got off the phone talking to you guys about all this. Always fun talking to you guys...just wish I were actually there!
Good thing I turn my speakers down when I'm talking to you. It would confuse me hearing stuff that you already said a
second time on the computer. It's weird enough hearing the end of the conversation after I hang up.
Ya know Benny, I must disagree with you about what you just said to Paul Miles about back in the day you had several bands in
every high school but that you didn't think that exists now. Well, some months back the Detroit Free Press had an article about how many teenagers can
now record and distribute their own stuff. It's not the same as the time period you are talking about. I mean these days you have more of the kids that
want to be solo singers rather than i a group and the music is often computer generated rather than played by actual human beings. Ok, you are correct in
that there aren't "bands" in the classic meaning but the spirit of the stuff you were talking about is still very much there....it's just
less about doing things as a group.
Doc Franklin just mentioned turning over the tape to keep recording the show. I don;t know why he doesn't invest in a
digital recorder of some sort. There are several options on the market that would serve his pupose. There are even CD recorders that might be good for
recording the show except that CD's come in 74-minutes and 80-minutes so he'd still have the issue of needing to change the CD. I say that a digital
recorder would be ideal. Record the show in full without having to flip a tape or put in a new CD then go home and put it onto a CD in a data format like MP3
or WAV. In fact as long as he had a hard drive to store the files on while he waited til he had enough to fill a CD (or even a DVD) he could fit several
shows on one disc. I think he could fit 5 shows on an 80-minute CD (based on the fact that I know many of my MP3 discs have close to 10 hours of music). A
DVD would hold I think 4 times that or more...I think I fit my stuff on 12 CD's and 4 DVD's a year or so back.
I like that song Paul Miles just played. I wish I had my sound capture software engaged so I could have that. I wonder if he
has that on his My Space?
I liked his live performance more than the album version you have playing now. The live performance was more energetic.
I'd love to talk to Paul about that fund raiser I have mentioned to you before. I think I told you that Kraig Nienhaus has
said if I can set it up he'd play. I think it'd be cool to have the Nienhaus band, Paul Miles, you, the Copy Cats and whoever else. I'd like it
to be like an all day thing....ideally at an outdoor venue in the summer.
Lets be sure to include Paul's My SPace page here (or rather on the message board once I paste this e-mail there),
www.myspace.com/pauljmilesmusic
And I just checked, "Blue Collar Man" is in deed on the My Space page.
I'm disappointed. I have not heard Paul do that high-pitched "WOOO!" that he did the first time I heard him on
the show.
Hey, THERE"S that high-pitched "WOOOO!" on "Rock Me Out" or whatever this song is
called. Sounds like this song only has one chord.....not that there's anything "wrong" with that. Hey, Bo Diddley had a 50-plus-year career
playing essentially one chord.
This track "The Big D" reminds me of the stuff from Stax Records and the like with that particular guitar riff. I
could do without the fiddle though. The fiddle just seems out of place.
Well, as I hear that "WOOOOOO!" once more I know it's about time for that ELO song. so I guess I will close this
e-mail out and copy it to the message board for your many readers and fans...the ones that don't post!
Catch you later!
-James

RE: beards | ||
|
But that's an old pic Benny. Your beard is longer and whiter now.
I think I mentioned jamming with a guy the other night that answered an ad I placed on Craig's List. I played Benny's tune "Dumb Girls" and told him if he wanted to hear the original to go to Benny's My Space page. He hadn't heard of Benny and the Jets but his girl friend who was with him had. I made sure to tell to spell "Benny" with a "Y" (In the title of the Elton John song, which he was familiar with, it's spelled "Bennie"). Last night I went to that open mic at Boney's again. Met a cute singer/song writer named Emily Rose. Check her out at www.EmilyRoseMusic.com or www.myspace.com/rose4emily. If you like her stuff she is having a re-release party for her CD "Cacoon Stew" on Friday November 13, 2009 at the Pheonix Cafe located at 24918 John R road in Hazel Park. It's open to all ages and admission is $5. You can get henna tattoos, make buttons and there will be snacks, Plus there will be special guests appearances by West Cramden, Meghan Tonjes, Spoken Word by J and other guest performers. That's all for now, Catch you all later! |

Ok, we all know how Benny likes to use the terminology from Twitter....usually incorrectly LOL.
Even though he hasn't done it recently, I decided to look up the terms used for Twitter and what they mean. 1. TweetWhen a Twitter user posts an update to their Twitter account, that update is often referred to as a "tweet" and the user is said to have "tweeted". Tweet can be used as a noun, referring to the actual written update, or a verb, referring to the action of publishing an update.2. FollowYou can either sign up to follow other Twitter users or they can sign up to follow you. If you follow someone, it simply means that you automatically receive that person's Twitter updates. Each time that person posts an update on Twitter, it appears on your Twitter home page instantly. Updates for all the people you sign up to follow appear in reverse chronological order with the most recent update on top of the page.3. @reply@reply precedes messages sent from one person to another that are public. In other words, anyone who can see your Twitter updates can see the @replies that you send or that are sent to you, whether or not they are following you or you are following them. These messages appear on Twitter updates as @username (with "username" replaced by the person's actual username from their Twitter account).4. Direct MessageA direct message is a private message from one Twitter user to another. You can only view your direct messages in your direct message Inbox after you log into your Twitter account. You can only send a direct message to Twitter users that you are already following. |
