This should be required reading in
every college and office building in the nation. Every politician should have a copy on his/her desk and be required to sign that they have, in fact, read
it.
This is where we are at this minute, in the death throes of a great country. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you ever read something and think, "Wow! I wish I had written that!" ...
Well, this is one of
those. This is great and it tells it like it is!
A Boss Who Tells it Like it Is ...
To All My Valued
Employees,
There have been some rumblings
around the office about the future of this company, and more specifically, your job. As you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents many
challenges. However, the good news is this: The economy doesn't pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is the changing
political landscape in this country.
However, let me tell you some
little tidbits of fact which might help you decide what is in your best interests.
First, while it is easy to spew
rhetoric that casts employers against employees, you have to understand that for every business owner there is a back story. This back story is often
neglected and overshadowed by what you see and hear. Sure, you see me park my Mercedes outside. You've seen my big home at last years Christmas party.
I'm sure; all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some idealized thoughts about my life.
However, what you don't see is
the back story.
I started this company 28 years
ago. At that time, I lived in a 300 square foot studio apartment for 3 years. My entire living apartment was converted into an office so I could put forth
100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.
My diet consisted of Ramen Pride
noodles because every dollar I spent went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota Corolla with a defective transmission. I didn't have time to
date. Often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business - hard work,
discipline, and sacrifice.
Meanwhile, my friends got jobs.
They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50K a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore
fancy designer clothes. Instead of hitting the Nordstrom's for the latest hot fashion item, I was trolling through the discount store extracting any
clothing item that didn't look like it was birthed in the 70's. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did
not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends
supposedly had.
So, while you physically arrive at
the office at 9am, mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5pm, I don't. There is no "off" button for me. When you leave the
office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have the freedom. I eat, and breathe this company every minute of the
day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to my hip like a 1 year old special-needs child.
You, of course, only see the fruits of that garden - the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations ... You never realize the back story and the sacrifices
I've made.
Now, the economy is falling apart
and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail-out all the people who didn't. The people that overspent their
paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed a decade of my life for.
Yes, business ownership has is
benefits but the price I've paid is steep and not without wounds.
Unfortunately, the cost of running
this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me tell you why:
I am being taxed to death and the
government thinks I don't pay enough. I have state taxes. Federal taxes. Property taxes. Sales and use taxes. Payroll taxes. Workers compensation
taxes. Unemployment taxes. Taxes on taxes. I have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then guess what? I have to pay taxes for employing him.
Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On Oct 15th, I wrote a check to the US Treasury
for $288,000 for quarterly taxes. You know what my "stimulus" check was? Zero. Nada. Zilch.
The question I have is this: Who is
stimulating the economy? Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or,
the single mother sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare check? Obviously, government feels the latter is the economic
stimulus of this country.
The fact is, if I deducted (Read:
Stole) 50% of your paycheck you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of
their hard work? Well, I agree which is why your job is in jeopardy.
Here is what many of you don't
understand ... to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had suddenly government mandated to me that I didn't need to pay
taxes, guess what? Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the Washington black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated
substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But you can forget
it now.
When you have a comatose man on the
verge of death, you don't defibrillate and shock his thumb thinking that will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you defibrillate his heart?
Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it. Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington
believe the poor of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of
change you can keep.
So where am I going with all
this?
It's quite
simple.
If any new taxes are levied on me,
or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I fire you. I fire your co-workers. You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage,
your SUV, and your child's future. Frankly, it isn't my problem any more.
Then, I will close this company
down, move to another country, and retire. You see, I'm done. I'm done with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive.
My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship.
So, if you lose your job, it
won't be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country, steamrolled the constitution,
and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me sitting on a beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about
...
Signed,
Your boss |

Hi everyone, I will be very disappointed if you close this blog. I really dont think it should matter what "young people" think. Most of the music
you play is from a time before the "young people" were born. Old people should matter too. I can understand if your reason is because there arent
as many people contributing. I usually find it interesting what is on here and read it often. If your goal is to get out the message about your entertainment
than it seems you might want to use more than one avenue and hit many different kinds of readers. If you limit it to one place than you will miss people who
might read the information in one place and not the other. I dont always go to my space and sometimes find it confusing to find all the current information
about where you are playing. There are only three dates on there that I can see and there is a lot of dates inbetween the info there. It doesnt seem that it
would hurt to really get all the current happenings out there and let people see it as many places as you can. This is just my opinion but it alway seems to
me the more you get the message out the better. It is hard to just ask questions there and get a quick reply. I will miss the chance to see something
different from my space and all its fancy ads from people who dont even come out to see you on a regular basis. Keeping it simple is not always so bad and the
blog is usually easier to just get across a simple message of where you are at and what has happened recently.

Hi all!
I am new to the board although Benny has been trying to get me to post for a while now LOL. I may be a bit late to wish you all a happy new year but darn it I'm gonna do it anyway. HAPPY NEW YEAR! I agree that it would be a shame to close this down. It seems like a good place for Benny's people to stay in touch with one another. This is actually my second post. I had started a new thread earlier because I didn't know what thread to post under. I look forward to getting to know you all a bit better -James |

Hi,
I am trying to keep this thing going again. James it is great to see you and the dog picture is great. I have to hurry because I have someplace to go. I have been busy working or doing other things but I still think we should all keep in contact here. It is still easier than my space to me. Well I know we are anxious for winter to end and to see if Obama can really be a stimulus for U.S. |

Hi again,
Maryjane, thanks for the compliment on my dog. His name is Quincy Aloysius Myndog. He's AKC registered so he has to have a pretentious sounding name LOL. I myself do not have a My Space page (not yet anyway) but I would think that this is easier for keeping in touch with people....especially several people at once. For just one or two people e-mail would be easier. I know Benny has been talking about shutting the board down. I can understand his frustration with few people posting. Is this a paid service or a free one? If Benny is having to pay to have the board here then I can REALLY understand his frustration. I know of some free message board services so maybe that would be an option instead of doing away with the "Benny board" all together. Catch you all later! P. S. I like red but after seeing the green Maryjane used I think it's easier to read on the black background.

Hi Benny!
Yes, women often know how to get things going. I still think this green is easier to read on the black background than the red. Which is a shame because red is my favorite color. Of course, the draw back is that it's harder to see on the white background as you type a post. I'd like to make a correction to what you said. I know a LITTLE bit about a lot of stuff and a lot about nothing. There is absolutely no topic on which I could be considered an expert. I prefer to keep my "pert" status current in case it ever becomes an Olympic event Catch you all later! |

I just made another video on YouTube. For those of you who are scared of peanut butter, please note that the ONLY thing
that has been found to be contaminated by salmonella are products from PCA (Peanut Corporation of America), which (used to) only sell huge quantities of peanut
butter (5 pounds - 1,700 pounds) and peanute paste (35 pounds to railroad tanker cars) to H&I (Hotels and Institutions), manufacturers, etc, and not to the
general public. The kind that you get in jars in the supermarkets are NOT in question at this time. Unilever (Skippy), J.M. Smucker co. (Jif, Smuckers, and
others) - even Con Agra, manufacturers of the Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter that was recalled several years ago for salmonella has been tested and
has come up safe. The large national brands have instituted rigorous quality control and safety testing programs.
It probably isn't surprising to anyone, but PCA has laid off almost all of the 50 workers at their Blakely, GA plant. But I'm sure it's not helping sales elsewhere either. I have faith, and I sure would like a nice toasted peanut butter & jelly sandwich. Now that I have a great toaster - one of the best ever made - a 1951 Toastmaster 1B14. 58 years later it STILL makes toast like this ad.
Anyway, I thought it was a good idea to make a peanut butter video. I don't know anyone in this video. I started looking for pictures...when I found the one with the baby near the end, I knew I HAD to do it! The Marathons - Peanut Butter (1961) MJ, that is a great color, shows up well on the background. Benny, the problem is with the setup of the board. I use other boards that use this and they have white backgrounds. Think of it as "a clean sheet of paper". If the editing screen used a black background you could see it well, and the dark blue would look spiffy on white. More people might come around if it were easier to read. Here, I'll demonstrate. And for those of you who couldn't read it (like me, until I came up with this work-around), here it is...
