I was switching my calendars last night and completely forgot to check for a new thread! Then I check today and there's a new post from Benny...in LAST month's thread!

By the way, the title of the thread is again a play on words. "August summer is allmost over" should be looked at like a country yokel is saying it (think Goofy from the Disney cartoons). That way it comes out sort of like "I guess summer is almost over."

Yes, yes, I know, "that James and his oh so clever word play!"

By the way, still using my old Windows 98 computer and getting really tired of doing so. I have to wait for my cousin to have the time so we can take a trip to Micro Center out by Oakland Mall. Then I will get a new mother board so that Milton can get back up and running (ideally better than ever).

I was trying to get a friend that lives in Arizona (a.k.a. "the surface of the sun") to post here. The problem is she said the link I gave her wouldn't open for her (I don't know why...I clicked on it myself and it worked fine).

Maybe I will try to get her to post when I get Milton back....still waiting for my cousin to have the time to go to Micro Center and get a new mother board.

I used to like Windows 98 and would never have switched to XP had 98 stopped being able to do the stuff I was interested in doing. Being forced into using Windows 98 again I am hating it more and more.

On the plus side it will make "Milton" seem faster than the speed of light by comparison.....regardless of how fast he ends up being.

I think at one time GINO could not get on either ???

I do think if you post under a different name it can block you ???
but should not be hard to post??
a lot of people read from work and the work computers will not or are not suppoed to be posting
which is why we had 100 views yesterday .. and 1 post ... lol

Yeah I have noticed the thing saying "post as" too. I just dont know when I first noticed it.

As to the problem my friend was having, she couldn't even get to the site. For some reason her computer wouldn't open the link I gave her. But I think you are correct that some work places have a block put on their computers to prevent employees from goofing off. I guess they don't realize that some people need to goof off because they actually perform better if they try to do a full day's work in the last 10 minutes before quitting time LOL.

I am so glad that of all the problems I am having because of using my old outdated Dell that not being able to listen to The Doctor Doo Wop Show isn;t one of them!

Ok, here is what I wrote to Benny this week:

Hey Benny,

I was upstairs watching one of those shows from shark week on the Discovery Channel so I didn't get down here to the computer (STILL my old dell) until just after 5:00. I noticed that the Doc seemed to play most of "Bennie and the Jets" by Elton John this week...assuming he started it at or near the beginning (like I said I got down here a little late).

So, what's new? I saw a guy yesterday at the Harbor Freight store on Gratiot at 15 mile that made me think of you. Big ol' long beard. Not as long as yours but it was perhaps wider or bushier (however you want to put it).

LOL what's with these nick names? "Bear", "Pooch"....what about someone called...oh, I don't know..."Snail"? That'd be one you don't hear often (if ever).

Hmm, this song that Doc Franklin said is the first ever Motown song seems more like Doo Wop than true Motown. Of course it DOES have the tamborine on the down beat.

Hmm, you have Sarah on now. And again I am wondering why the women don't have nick names like the dudes? Of course you'd have to be careful what you came up with. You couldn't call a woman "Bear" or "Pooch"....not to her face anyway.

It is different in the dry heat out west. I agree with you that if the breeze blows it does nothing, except circulate the hot air like in a convection oven. But I can recall that when I was out in California back in 1984 to spend the summer with my sisters ,hat lived in Barstow at the time, I was out walking a lot and the heat didn't seem to bother me as much as it does here in Michigan. Sure it tended to be hotter but it wasn't humid which is what makes you feel suffocated. Granted this was 25 years ago and I was too young and stupid to know you shouldnt go walking several miles in the desert heat while wearing long pants (my memory tells me it didn't boither me much but you couldn't pay me to do it now).

Oh, I was wondering why the Doc was turning the music down when the Marvelettes weren't done singing. He has his son on the line. Oh, he didn't even know Detroit had a football team? That's ok, neither did Detroit!

As you are talking about the Nude Fest or, whatever it's called, it occurs to me that you mentioned that YOU took the plunge into the naked pool....or into the pool naked...but you didn't say if Mrs. Benny joined you.

LOL, yep you got that right, when we listeners hear Doc Franklin say "have I ever told you" we roll the eyes and know the punchline before it comes out of his mouth. I guess telling the same jokes over and over is part of Doc Franklin's charm though.

Listening to the Marvelettes it's hitting me for the first time that the ones doing the backing vocals really weren't that good. The harmonies are less than they should be and their timing wasn't the best either. I guess the fact that those songs are considered classics are just testament to the great writers. The lead singer was pretty good though.

LMAO! You were just talking about a picture of you back in the day with no beard and the Bryl cream hair with your '55 Chevy and saying how that was truly a memory. The Doc's reaction made me think he was going to ask if you meant the car or your hair.

Hmm, I think that Smokey Robinson and The Miracles singing but I don;t feel like running up two flights of stairs to get my cell phone to call in and see if I can get those tickets to that Doo Wop show.

OMG! No body called in to get the tickets? And the women in your audience guessed Little Anthony? What the heck!! I wasn't familiar with the song (which did throw me off for a second or three) but I knew it was Smokey! It's not even like the Doc makes this stuff all that hard. Yeah, ok, once in a blue moon he throws in something truly obscure but mostly it's stuff people should know just by listening to the show regularly.

I think sometimes people just get too wound up about this stuff. There are times it seems you could give multiple choices and say "was it A- Chubby Checker, B- Jerry Lee Lewis or C- Bozo the Clown...and by the way the anser isn't B or C", and the people still wouldnt get it!

Darn it, I want a nick name! But, then again, would I want to get it from the people that gave these guys names like Bear and Pooch? I'm a hairy little man, I could be a "Bear". But I know what that means to a certain portion of the population. Just one of the "benefits" of having a friend who's gay. He's good at telling me things that I would be perfectly happy not knowing.

As you are mentioning the drive-in theatres and the Ford-Wyoming it brings to mind something I saw on TV a week or so back about something they call "gorilla drive-ins". People will set up a screen and peopel will come and watch the movie. They even have like the real drive-ins do these days where you listen to the movie by tuning your car radio to a certain frequenncy. It's kind of a neat idea, especially for those that are nostalgic for drive-in movies. The screen is much, MUCH smaller of course than the real drive-ins had/have. That'd actually be a cool thing to do for a fund raiser!

That guy from channel 10 in Waterford sounds like someone gave him a whole coffee pot full of espresso. Could he be any more excited? LOL

Technically that wasn't a simulcast! The TV part wasn't being aired at the same time. The guy told you it won't air until September. It would have to be airing live at that moment to be simulcast!

Remember what I told you the other week. It's the little details that make a big difference.

Hey, there's Mrs. Benny...or as you say "Mrs. Jet" (my way sounds cuter).

As you tell Sarah to describe herself for the listeners it reminds me of what the late Paul Christy said when he Emceed the first Chuck Berry concert I went to.He said "I had you all thinking I was a tall blonde swede and here I come out looking like a short rabbi!"

Well it's 6:54 so I assume that as soon as Smokey is done singing "Shop Around" that ELO song will come on. I know Doc Franklin likes the message of that song but truly their best song (in my opinion) is "Rock & Roll Is King".

LOL, I thought for sure when he started playing "Shop Around" again after saying he was gonna give away one more set of tickets that he was making it WAY too easy! But then he said that was an "oops". Again I don't have my cell down here but then again I didn't know who was singing that song anyway.

Well, I will close this out for now. With luck I will have "Milton" back for next week. My cousin and I are supposed to go to Micro Center tomorrow so I can get a new mother board. I saw a nice "bare bones" kit in an e-mail that was only $179 but that's like 60 bucks more than I have right now so I will have to just get a new mother board. Besides that particular bare bones kit didn;t have as much in it as many others I've seen. Like this one didn't have a hard drive or a DVD-ROM. Not a huge deal as I could just use the ones out of Milton but, I already got that new power supply also amd I wouldnt need that for the kit (I think I could have them leave that out of the package if I wanted or even have them exchange the included power supply for an upgrade on one of the other components). All of that is a moot point of course since, as I said, I don't have enough money at this time.

after the radio show I played live for the people at O-tools seemed to go over really well
i played that "new" acoustic guitar .. and it is sometimes weird to go from electric to acoustic
elec is much easer to play but acoustic has a lot more sound and I am not used to playing
in the first position/not bar cords ........ but makes if fun

Ok Benny, exactly which one is the "new" guitar? Is it the Talman?

As to it not feeling right because you are used to electric, well that's something I don;t relate to all that well. To me a guitar is a guitar. Granted some have beefier necks or different neck shapes or what not and that can affect your playing if you are not use to a particular guitar (a problem that I am familiar with).

Personally I like playing acoustic. You dont have to deal with all the crap that comes from playing amplified.....unless you are playing for an audience in which case you still need amplifcation. Not to mention that amplifying an acoustic brings it's own problems to the table on top of those related to just playing an electric guitar (like trying to keep the acoustic guitar sounding like an acoustic guitar).

Because of the guitars I have I prefer the beefier acoustic-type neck. That's part of the reason I an not too fond of many Fender guitars. They just seem to have a thin neck compared to those thatare more like the Gibson line (or those copied from the Gibson line). The one exception I can easily point to is the Strat-acoustic which has a nicely rounded neck and doesn;t have that damned flat radius on the fret board that Fender tends to have on many of their guitars.

As I have said, if you don't like the Talman I'd be happy to take it off your hands (LOL). Although the neck on it isn't as comfortable as the Strat-acoustic what with it being so flat.

acoustic you can get real quite and turn around and bang real loud
has a lot of demention that elcetric doesn't have ...

There's a Lunar Eclipse tonight but we wouldn't know it from looking at the Moon. This eclipse, like the Lunar Eclipse of July 7th has the Moon barely grazing the Earth's shadow and no visible change in Luna's light will occur. We can think of tonight's Moon as an Full Moon with extra punch. If we're a werewolf (or know any) lay in a supply of raw meat now.

Tonight's Moon triggers a conflict of energy; on the one hand Uranus's building square to Pluto inspires revolutionary impulses. We're ready to march (metaphorically or otherwise) for peace, justice, universal health care, baby seals--something!). On the other hand, the Jupiter/Neptune/Chiron (dreams crashing into cold, hard reality) involvement in this Eclipse inclines us to expect more from people and society than they are capable of giving. So say the stellar alignments, though the wise person, instead of seeing the glass as half empty--or even half full--will instead try and discover who drank half their beer.

So, it's the one you got the sound hole pickup for then. Cool.

I know what it's like to be "between computers". Was SUPPOSED to take a trip to Micro Center today to get the stuff to fix "Milton". I hope it won't be too much longer til we actually get the stuff.

Milton is gonna be the "Six Million Dollar Man" of computers. You know, "we can rebuild him....better, faster, stronger!" (nananananananananana)

Ok, so he'll be more like the "$3.75 Man". I think I am gonna pay between 50 and 80 bucks for a new mother board (I'll wait til I'm ready to build Milton 2 before buying one of the more expensive boards). And I need to get a $20 adapter for my secondary hard drive (the one I keep my music on) so that I will be able to connect it. The newer boards only have one IDE header and I need that for my DVD drives. So, I have to get an adapter that goes from IDE to SATA. My cousin tries to tell me I should just get a new hard drive and do away with the older IDE one...but it's a good drive and the adapter is cheaper than a new drive anyway. The only real benefit to getting a new drive is it would be bigger, the one I need the adapter for is just 100 gigs (which isn't small but by today's standards it's not all that big).

It was 4 years ago today that my Grandma died of cancer. Sunday will be the anniversary of the day we buried her.

Sunday is also Quincy's birthday, he'll be 7. I plan to take him for his "doggy delight" at the ice cream place on 9 mile. Maybe, take him to Petco to get a new toy. The problem is it's hard to get him something that's different than what he has now. I can't get him soft things like the plush animals that squeak. He just tears them apart.

One more Sunday rememberance! Sunday will have been the 73rd birthday of my friend's mom. She died a couple of years ago. I found out that she and Quincy shared a birthday one year when I stopped by my friends' and they asked what I had been up to. I told them I had taken Quincy for his birthday treat and they said it was Bill's Mom's birthday too!

Well, that's about it for now.

Today is Quincy's birthday. He is 7-years-old. I plan to take him for his ice cream treat a little later on if it isn't too freakin' hot and muggy. We might also stop by Petco and see if they have any toys that are different from what he already has, Something he can't detroy in less than a day. Even if I can't find something for him he still likes riding in the cart. Even if we make it to the ice cream place we may have to for go Petco because I don't want to over heat Quincy.

We started the day off with some sad news this morning. Wilma, our rabbit, died. She didn't seem herself yesterday. She was much more calm as I petted her and was laying down a lot more than usual. She was not quite a year old.

On Friday I went to the movies. That means it's time for another edition of "AT THE CINEMA!"
The movie I saw was "G. I. Joe". Now, I will be honest, while I went to this movie wanting to like it yet expecting to hate it. I turned out to be pleasantly surpised! This movie had a fairly well written story and featured several of the more popular G. I. Joe characters...most notably Snake Eyes. I can't say I loved this movie but it was a fun summer flick. My Grandpa would likely call it a "shoot 'em up" even though it's as far from being a western as you can get. I'm going to give this one a "B-". If you are a fan of the old "G.I. Joe" cartoon from the 80's or even the comics you will likely enjoy this movie on some level. There are some things I didn't like but mostly it was a good film and it's set up for a sequel so, if that comes to be, maybe they will fix the problems in the next movie. I think even people that are not into G. I. Joe could like this as a general action flick. It's not like it's "Hamlet" and it is based on a toy line and cartoon. But I did see an older gentleman in the theatre that was DEFINITELY not in the age group that the cartoon or toys would have appealed to (not even the original toys from the 60's). Quite frankly I am stymied as to why he went to this film. He didnt have a kid with him or anything. Maybe he was an action movie fan...who knows? Anyway, if you want to enjoy a little summer escapism and you like action you may want to check this one out.

Still using this old Dell and Windows 98! I was supposed to go to Micro Center with my cousin yesterday but that got postponed yet again. Now it's supposed to happen today.....today BETTER be the day! I want Millton back damn it!

MJ we need you back here...and any other women that have posted in the past. Benny's right, the board has too much testosterone.

Oh! I had a weird dream. Or at least a partial dream. I don;t tend to dream often....at least not dreams I ever remember. Those rare ones I do have (or remember) happen when I am not really sleeping yet not really awake. I'm awake enough to know that I'm dreaming...if that makes sense. Anyway, in this dream they were making a movie about Benny. Why? I have no clue. I tend to join the dreams I remember in progress. All I really remember is that there was a dude playing benny with a fake beard and wig that made him look like Santa Claus more so than Benny. And there was hair on the top of his head too. Then the credits roll and the guy is lip syncing one of Benny's tunes along with a bunch of other people...one of whom is Benny. And Benny had a short beard. If I'mgoing to have a dream that I remember why can't it be a regular old SEX dream?!? Well, at least the dream I had wasn't set at Turtle Lake! (shudder!) If it were then my counselor would REALLY be earning her money today boy!

Mary Jane stop by ... HI .... (did you see Gino too)

Often I think people know where we are in Rodchester ... from Franklin saying it on radio
and I am not sure the address ... but this week at the Sunrise Senior Center in Rodchester?
I need to look up address ... and Saturday Dream Cruise across from St Joe's Hospitol

my friend Darreld from the 7-11 by my house is moving to Portland
after 18 years on the job ... it will be weird stopping by for my late night paper
new guy crazy al (owned the pizza place) is cool .. and like to yak sports
Gino and some of the gang stoped by last night ... JT mentioned it on his Fox Radio show

he asked about big george .. I am guessing he got that off our dead people page?

A Milton update!

I FINALLY got a new mother board for "Milton"!

New mother board, new memory and an adapter so I can connect my IDE drive to a SATA port.

Essentially it will be a new computer in the old box. The only things that will be the same are the DVD drives, the hard drives, the floppy drive and my fax modem. Oh, and the fan for the system.

Will have to reformat the main hard drive because of the different BIOS and drivers but, at least, my cousin has a setup where I can back up the info I didnt have saved before the thing stopped working. So I won't be losing anything important like I have in the past when things stopped working.

With luck I will be ready to re-install Windows by Friday and then I can stop using this old Dell!
